Windows Media Connect is a software application created by Microsoft that allows multimedia content (such as music, videos, and pictures) to be streamed from a Windows-based computer to compatible devices.
This application was first released in 2003 and succeeded by Windows Media Center in 2005. Windows Media Connect utilizes Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology to enable the sharing of content over a local network.
Supported devices include Xbox, digital picture frames, and specific network-enabled digital media receivers. Users can browse and select content on their device of choice, which is then streamed from their computer to the selected device.
Windows Media Connect also includes features such as content access control through password protection and network traffic management. It is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and certain editions of Windows 7.
